Village Welcome, friends! On the last morning of our 2026 FindUsCamping Midwest Mini RV Crawl, Lisa grabbed the camera (crazy morning hair and all) and asked everyone in our group the honest questions: Was it what you expected? Would you do it again? Here’s the honest truth about group RV travel.

If you’ve ever wondered what traveling in a group of RVs is really like, here’s what the people who did it had to say.

Why This Year’s RV Crawl Was “Mini”

With fuel prices where they were, we kept the 2026 RV Crawl shorter and closer, with fewer miles and longer stays. We didn’t want to make it so expensive that nobody could join. Six rigs made the trip, from first-timers to folks who’d crawled with us before.

What Surprised First-Timers

  • It wasn’t exhausting. One family expected a whirlwind (Jimmy has a reputation), but we stayed more than 48 hours in most spots, which left time to rest, work and enjoy each stop.
  • Nothing was mandatory. “I felt like I could take a nap whenever I wanted to.” You’re welcome to join every activity, and welcome to skip any of them.
  • Kids and adults both had fun. One family brought three kids, and there was always something for the kids and something for the grown-ups.
  • Peace of mind. If something goes wrong on the side of the road, you’re not alone, waiting hours for roadside assistance.

What Returning Crawlers Said

  • They loved staying longer at each stop instead of moving every two days.
  • It went by fast. “It’s over already?”
  • One crawler said it best: it’s about “the people, the places, and the adventures.”
  • And from another: “The people. I enjoy the company.”

Favorite Stops of the Trip

  • The National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton was the crowd favorite: free admission, free parking and free scooters. Read our full guide to the Air Force Museum.
  • The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. One crawler wasn’t sure she’d enjoy it and ended up loving it.
  • Kayaking, a bucket-list item for Lisa.
  • A creamery ice cream stop, the kids’ pick.
  • North Trace RV Resort, our final stop and Lisa’s personal favorite. Read our North Trace RV Resort tour.

The Honest Truth About Group RV Travel

Leave time is always “-ish”

Jimmy hates it, but departure time is always an estimate. With kids, pets and life, someone will always step in something or get something in their eye at the last minute. And that’s okay.

Plans change

One Harvest Hosts stop we’d planned didn’t have room for our big rigs, so we had to turn everyone around and find another spot fast. The lesson: bob and weave. It ended up being awesome anyway.

Everyone travels at a different pace

Jimmy earned his “go-go” reputation on our first RV Crawl, about 6,000 miles in roughly 60 days, because of everyone’s time limits. He actually likes staying 3 to 5 days and then moving on. When your route goes out West from the East Coast, though, some long days are just part of it.

Would They Try Group RV Travel Again?

Every single person said yes. Several are already booked for our next event, and the kids just wanted one more day to play with their new friends. That says it all.

Join the Next RV Crawl

We’re already working on the 2027 RV Crawl, and it’s going to be fun (and different!). As our favorite saying goes: what happens on the RV Crawl… may or may not have been videod.
